Dear Birth Mom,

Thank you for taking the time to read our letter and consider us as an adoptive family. We are honored to be considered and marvel at your courage as you make this decision.  As you look our book and read this letter, we hope that you can see a small glimpse of the love that we have to give.

We are both native Oklahomans who first met in 2012. Shortly after meeting, Tara moved to Colorado for two years. We reconnected in late 2014 when she moved back to Oklahoma City and have been inseparable since, marrying in the summer of 2016.

Prior to meeting, we both led very active and independent lives as single adults, focusing on education, travel and staying involved with family and friends. Tara’s career centered on art and teaching, including a two-year stint in China, teaching English. She is also a running enthusiast, having completed several full marathons. Joe works in Accounting and Finance and also enjoys playing and attending sporting events, especially supporting his alma mater, Oklahoma State University.  We have traveled extensively, both single and as a couple, and have spent a lot of time exploring other cultures and ethnicities.

In 2017, we welcomed our son into the family. Tara experienced complications in her seventh month of pregnancy and was admitted into the hospital with pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome. Wade was delivered by emergency C-section at 31 weeks, weighing just over 3 pounds. Thankfully, he suffered no complications from his early birth, but did spend 26 days in the NICU. Due to the complications from the pregnancy and existing risk factors, having more biological children is not an option for us. We’ve both always seen ourselves as parents of multiple children and even before marriage, had both considered adoption to be a part of our futures.  We believe God has confirmed this is our time to pursue that.

As a family, we love to spend time outdoors, going on walks to our neighborhood snow cone stand and playing at the local park.  All three of us are avid readers, and we love to take Wade to Story Time at our library. We still travel and have already begun collecting stamps for Wade’s National Park Passport.  Joe and Tara are big music fans and love to go to concerts and the theater.  We hope to share this interest with our children, as they get older.

Having Wade has been such an amazing addition to our family and has only enriched our lives further.  It’s been so fun to watch him discover the world and see his little personality develop over time.  We are excited to expand our family and add another (or more – we would be thrilled for twins!) little one to love and teach about the world.

Tara has the great privilege of staying home full time to care for our children and our home.  Both our moms also live very close and are actively involved in our lives, able and willing to spend time to help with childcare or just have a fun play day.  We are also very close to our extended family and have many cousins, nieces and nephews that we love to spend quality time with.

Our goal is to make sure that your story is known and lives on in the lives of our family.  We want you to be known and talked about, prayed for and loved.  We will send photos and updates and work with you to develop a plan of interactions and communication that we are all comfortable with.  Your bravery and sacrifice are making it possible for us to be parents to this precious baby. We truly believe that God is orchestrating the circumstances in your life and ours to make this relationship possible.

We are praying for you now and always,

Joe and Tara
